Canon’s newly developed CMOS sensor outperforms everything in its
class, delivering effective 8.2 megapixel resolution, accelerated
signal reading, high sensitivity and extremely low noise. Its large
APS-C (22.5 x 15.0mm) size realizes an effective angle of view
that’s 1.6 times the focal length indicated on Canon EF lenses.
These refinements are the result of DIGIC II imaging engine
technology. |
|
|
|
Thanks to an advanced DIGIC II imaging engine, the EOS 20D achieves
an amazing 5fps consecutive shooting speed during maximum bursts of
23 shots (6 shots in RAW format) — even when shooting in the
Large/Fine JPEG setting (approx. 3,504 x 2,336 pixels. High-speed
4-channel reading, an accelerated mirror driving system, and faster
recording to the CF card make this feat possible. |
 |
|
The new 9-point AF sensor provides highly precise focus detection
and enlarged subject coverage. It also performs at higher speed and
offers better focusing performance in low light conditions. The
high-precision center AF point is compatible with f/2.8 lenses,
while the other 8 points are sensitive to f/5.6. |

When fleeting shutter opportunities arise, the remarkably quick
startup (approx. 0.2-seconds) and short shutter release time lag
(65-milliseconds) help photographers capture the moment without
delay, thanks to the high-speed mirror drive. A shortened viewfinder
blackout time further contributes to this class-leading
responsiveness. Another efficient use of the photographer’s time is
the fast transfer of data enabled by EOS 20D’s compatibility with
USB 2.0. |
 |
|
EOS 20D users can take full advantage of Canon’s world-renowned
lineup of EF and EF-S Series professional lenses. Even wide-angle
EF-S lenses provide excellent performance when teamed with the EOS
20D’s APS-C-size CMOS sensor. Canon’s new EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS
USM lens is especially recommended for the EOS 20D. It features an
Image Stabilizer (IS) that minimizes blur from unsteady handling and
provides maximum performance for wide-angle shooting.

|
|
The EOS 20D is elegantly refined yet highly durable, as well as
expertly contoured for easy handling. Smaller and lighter than the
current model, it features a highly rigid magnesium alloy top, front
and rear covers, a solid stainless steel internal chassis, and a
mirror box of high-strength engineering plastic. |
 |
|
Operation becomes faster and more intuitive with the EOS 20D. A new
Multi-controller on the back of the camera can be pushed in eight
directions, as well as down in the center, to simplify selection of
the AF point, correction of white balance, trimming of images during
direct printing, scrolling of magnified images and more. The newly
designed grip is also more ergonomic for steadier, more comfortable
shooting.
| |
|
|
Even basic features are highly refined. The new shutter, for
example, offers a maximum speed of 1/8000 sec. and is more durable.
White balance offers advanced compensation and bracketing functions,
and the new viewfinder is bright, clear and especially easy to
focus. Canon also provides a Monochrome mode with filter and toning
effects as well as adjustable contrast and sharpness. |

The following accessories are recommended for EOS 20D users to enjoy
all the advantages Canon has to offer for smooth and satisfying
shoots. Battery Pack BP-511A offers a large 1390mAh capacity,
approximately 26% more than prior versions. Battery Grip BG-E2 is a
battery attachment dedicated to EOS 20D that accommodates two
BP-511A battery packs or six AA-size batteries whether alkaline or
NiMH — just the thing needed for long outdoor shoots. For general
indoor shooting and those especially dark situations, the new,
high-performance
Speedlite 580EX is the recommended choice for flash unit.
